NNREC Grants
NNREC has its own Conservation Education Mini-Grant Program, offered in the fall of each year. You must have taken an environmental education workshop from NNREC or one of its partners to apply.
Project Learning Tree GreenWorks! Grants
If you have taken a Project Learning Tree (PLT) workshop from NNREC or anyone else, you are eligible for the GreenWorks! grant program. Deadline: April 30 and October 31.
Garden & Outdoor Classroom
Youth Garden Grants Program. NGA awards Youth Garden Grants to schools and community organizations with child-centered, outdoor garden programs. In evaluating grant applications, priority will be given to programs that emphasize one or more of these elements: educational focus or curricular/program integration, nutrition or plant-to-food connections, environmental awareness/education, entrepreneurship, social aspects of gardening such as leadership development, team building, community support, or service-learning. Deadline: November 1.
Organic School Garden Awards. School students nationwide, grades K through 12, are invited to enter this Organic School Garden Awards competition. If you're a kid who believes that you can improve your health and the health of the earth by gardening, this contest is for you! Deadline: October 31.
Wild Ones Seeds for Education Grant Program. Project goals should focus on the enhancement and development of an appreciation for nature using native plants. Projects must emphasize involvement of students and volunteers and increase the educational value of the site. Creativity in design is encouraged, but must show complete and thoughtful planning. The use of and teaching about native plants and the native plant community is mandatory, and they must be appropriate to the local ecoregion and the site conditions (soil, water, sunlight). Deadline: November 15.
Lowe's Outdoor Classroom Grant Program: To provide outdoor, hands-on science education to students in grades K-12 and assist schools in enhancing their core curriculum in all subjects. Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation, International Paper and National Geographic Explorer! classroom magazine have partnered to create an outdoor classroom grant program to provide schools with additional resources to improve their science curriculum by engaging students in hands-on experiences outside the traditional classroom. All K-12 public schools in the United States are welcome to apply. This school year, the program will award grants up to $2,000 to at least 100 schools. In some cases, grants for up to $20,000 may be awarded to schools or school districts with major outdoor classroom projects. The grants can be used to build a new outdoor classroom or to enhance a current outdoor classroom at the school. Deadline: ongoing.
Other
Climate Change Educator: Earth Day Network is working with high schools to win global warming victories nationwide. EDN members are eligible to become Climate Change Educators and receive stipends of $500 for their work to help their high schools reach a global warming victory through policy and action. Deadline: September 14, 2007.
Target Field Trip Grants: At Target, we know that for many classes, field trip transportation costs can be prohibitive and that’s why we are making funds available specifically for field trips. Apply for a Target grant and you could receive one of 800 grants of $1,000 to do something amazing with your class. Target will take care of the funding, so you can focus on the fun of discovery. Deadline: November 1.
Environmental Excellence Awards: The SeaWorld/ Busch Gardens/ Fujifilm Environmental Excellence Awards recognize the outstanding efforts of K-12 students and teachers across the country who are working at the grassroots level to protect and preserve the environment. The award eligibility criteria have recently been expanded to recognize and reward community groups who are also protecting the Earth. This is an awards program, not a grant. Deadline: November 30.
Youth Service America
- Good Neighbor Service Learning Grant: Youth Service America will award 100 of these grants from the State Farm Companies Foundation to teachers, students and school-based service learning coordinators to implement service learning projects for National & Global Youth Service Day, April 20-22, 2007. Deadline: October 16.
- Disney Minnie Grants: The Walt Disney Company and Youth Service America are pleased to announce grants of up to $500 to support youth-led service projects. These grants support youth (ages 5-14) in planning and implementing service projects in their community. Teachers, older youth (15-25), youth-leaders, and youth-serving organizations are also eligible to apply, provided that they that engage younger youth (5-14) in planning and implementing the service. Service can take place between October 1 and November 26, 2007. Projects can address themes such as the environment, disaster relief, public health and awareness, community education, hunger, literacy, or any issue that youth identify as a community need. Deadline: August 30.
Youth-Directed Service-Learning Action: State Farm Youth Advisory Board will award grants for youth-directed projects. These grants will address in a structural way the issues of disaster preparedness, driver safety, accessing higher education/closing the achievement gap, and financial education. The number of grants to be awarded will depend on the number and quality of requests received. Grant amounts will vary according to the nature of the proposal and availability of funds. However, at least one service-learning project will be funded in each of the thirteen State Farm zones which include the three provinces in Canada. Deadline: November 15.
Captain Planet Foundation Grants: The Captain Planet Foundation provides grants to support hands-on environmental projects. The objective of the Foundation is to encourage innovative programs that empower children and youth around the world to work individually and collectively to solve environmental problems in their neighborhoods and communities. Grant rewards up to $2,500 are available. Deadline: September 30.
Toyota Tapestry Grants: are administered by NSTA and are available to K-12 teachers of science. 2006 awards include 50 grants of up to $10,000 each and 20 mini-grants of $2,500 each. Deadline: January 18.
American Honda Foundation: Dreamful (imaginative), Creative, Youthful, Foresightful (forward-thinking), Scientific, Humanistic, Innovative. The American Honda Foundation provides grants in the fields of youth education and scientific education to the following: Educational institutions, K-12; accredited higher education institutions (colleges and universities); community colleges and vocational or trade schools; scholarship and fellowship programs at selected colleges and/or universities or through selected non-profit organizations; other scientific and education-related, non-profit, tax-exempt organizations; gifted student programs; media concerning youth education and/or scientific education; private, non-profit scientific and/or youth education projects; other non-profit, tax-exempt, institutions in the fields of youth education and scientific education; and programs pertaining to academic or curriculum development that emphasize innovative educational methods and techniques. Deadline: November 1.
Melinda Gray Ardia Environmental Foundation: $1000, for teachers only. Our mission is to support educators in developing environmental curricula that integrate field activities and classroom teaching and that incorporate basic ecological principles and problem solving. Deadline: April 9.
Presidential Awards: Help recognize the best mathematics and science teachers in your community by nominating them for the 2007 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Awardees recieve a citation signed by the President of the United States; the opportunity to join a network of Presidential Awardees; a paid trip for two to Washington DC to attend a weeklong series of recognition events and professional development opportunities; gifts from program sponsors; and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation. Deadline: May 1.
A+ for Energy: British Petroleum (BP) will award up to $5 million in grants and scholarships to preK-12 teachers for innovative classroom, after-school, extra-curricular, or summer projects focused on energy and/or energy conservation aligned with the application criteria. Grants will be awarded directly to teachers, reflecting the budget request submitted with the application. Deadline: March 23.
