Selection Criteria
Conservation Education Mini-Grant Program
NNREC has set the criteria used to evaluate applications to the program.
Required
- application form is complete (description, budget, and contact info)
- applicant has taken an environmental education or service-learning workshop from NNREC or one of its partners; if the application is from a school or nonprofit, at least one of the team members has taken a workshop
- project directly benefits K-12 students, or the people who educate them
- project is supported or accepted by the school principal, or nonprofit organization executive director or board
Encouraged
- highlights hands-on and inquiry learning, no matter what the subject area
- more than one subject is integrated in the project
- district, Nevada, and/or national standards are met
- elements of high-quality service-learning
- cross-grade experiences where older or trained students are teaching other students
- experiences on the schoolyard, in the community, and/or in the natural environment as well as the classroom
- mini-grant funds are matched by other funds
Obviously no single small project can meet all of these criteria, but only projects which meet several will be competitive.
