Why PayPal?

NNREC makes use of the PayPal payment service for membership dues and subscriptions, workshop fees, and donations. We are pleased with this service because it allows us to offer people direct payment without us having to maintain an expensive merchant account. The fees we pay to receive money through PayPal are similar to those paid by any business accepting credit card payment. We cannot accept credit card payments over the phone because we do not have a credit card terminal, which would be another significant expense for a small nonprofit organization like NNREC.

How to pay with PayPal

Throughout our website you will find payment buttons. When you click on the button, you will be taken to PayPal's payment page, from which you can login to your PayPal account or make a direct one-time payment.

You may make payments through PayPal in three ways:

If you already have a PayPal account, your payment will take about one minute. If you are making a one-time payment from your credit card, it will take about two minutes. If you are setting up a new account, it will take about ten minutes. If you are creating a link between PayPal and your bank account, it takes about three days, but once you have done so, it is easy to transfer funds between your accounts.

Though we only mail newsletters and other materials to people about three times per year, please make sure that your PayPal account has your current address and that you include your "shipping" address with the payment.

For workshops and conferences, the web page which contains the payment button will also have a separate registration form, since PayPal does have a method for collecting the additional information we need - it is not a registration service. Please make sure that you complete both steps - payment and registration. If you want to provide us with a different email address, mailing address, or even name (if you are sharing an account with a spouse or family member, or someone paid on your behalf), that is fine, but please use the PayPal note field to say so, so that we make the connection.

Security

In five years of using PayPal, NNREC has never had a security breach or security issue with PayPal. However, because the relationship created by payment is actually between you and PayPal, and not between you and us, we cannot absolutely guarantee that you will have no issues.

When you click on a payment button, the resulting PayPal login page will have the address of https://www.paypal.com/... . If the domain (the paypal.com part) is anything else, do not continue.

PayPal will never send you an email with a link to your account. If you receive such an email, it is a "phishing" scam which attempts to obtain your account information through a false web page. These attempts are one of the unfortunate aspects of the Internet - NNREC receives some of them ourselves. Just delete the email, and you are safe.

Recognizing that some people are uncomfortable with online payment, you may always send in payments by mail, and there be a print form and mailing address linked from the payment web page.
