VISTA Environmental Literacy Program Developer
NNREC is recruiting an AmeriCorps*VISTA member to serve as a program developer for our environmental literacy initiative. The position will:
- Identify and apply for governmental and non-governmental funding to provide for field trip grant and mini-grant programs, and organizational sustainability for NNREC for its role in leadership in environmental education for the state.
- Work with local Washoe County and/or Carson City schools to determine the needs of low-income, Hispanic and/or Native American students for environmental education and children’s health programs. Provide services to at least one school with a significant low-income, Hispanic and/or Native American student population.
- Actively recruit educators to environmental literacy workshops with Hispanic and/or Native American backgrounds, or serving low-income, Hispanic and/or Native American students, or arrange for direct provision of workshops to teachers at schools with significant low-income, Hispanic and/or Native American population. Assist in environmental literacy professional development workshops.
- Work with our educational partners (particularly their VISTA and AmeriCorps members!) to develop direct service programs that effectively serve low-income students, classrooms and families; these parnters will include Sierra Nevada Journeys, Tahoe Environmental Research Center, Public Lands Institute, Nevada Outdoor School, and others.
The VISTA member will work in the Reno, Lake Tahoe, and Carson City areas, with an office in Reno.
