Partners

NNREC partners with a number of organizations and agencies in Nevada in order to fulfill the mission of NNREC and to support the environmental education community. The partners that we work with most commonly are shown below, and additional ones are on the Providers pages. Please also see the organizations that we are a member of.


NOS Nevada Outdoor School (NOS) is a nonprofit organization that provides educational experiences which foster connections with plants, animals and habitats in Nevada, while deepening students' knowledge and appreciation of nature. Nevada Outdoor School offers the following services to all of northern Nevada: outdoor education lessons that engage students both in and out of the classroom, summer camps and internships, outdoor education resources for land agencies, local non-profit organizations, youth groups and teachers.


SierraNevadaJourneysSierra Nevada Journeys: 1119 Tule Dr, Reno NV 89521, 775-560-3345, . "SNJ is the leading provider of experiential education and science enrichment in the greater Reno/Tahoe area." SNJ provides after-school, classroom outreach, and residential outdoor school and other overnight experiences.


PublicLandsInstitutePublic Lands Institute of UNLV: Box 452040, Las Vegas NV 89154-2040, 702-895-3890. Mission: The Public Lands Institute will be fully engaged in strengthening the national fabric that is essential for the protection, conservation, and management of public lands. The institute, together with its partners, will create new knowledge, advance technology, improve education and engage the public. The prominence of the institute will be built by: Establishing an outstanding reputation as a source of information regarding public lands; Producing high quality products, including publications, workshops, conferences, and educational materials; Coordinating interdisciplinary research and education; Facilitating partnerships that are based on honesty, reliability, respect, effectiveness, and efficiency; Being responsive to partners' needs and providing timely practical solutions; Participating in the dynamic and pervasive process of assessment, reflection, and improvement; and Serving as an advocate for education, literacy, and informed decision-making.

PLI hosts a collaboration, Partners for Education About the Environment, and a website, EnviroEdExchange.


NDF Nevada Divsion of Forestry (NDF) manages all forestry, nursery, endangered plant species, and watershed resource activities on certain public and private lands. The Division also provides fire protection of structural and natural resources through fire suppression and prevention programs and other emergency services. NNREC works with NDF's Conservation Education Program to offer Project Learning Tree workshops and other professional development for educators.


NevadaProjectWETNevada Project WET, program of the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection. Mary Kay Riedl, 901 S Stewart St, Ste 4001, Carson City NV 89701, 775-687-9454. Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) is an interdisciplinary water education program designed to supplement K-12 curriculum by integrating water education into any subject in the classroom. Project WET offers an entire network of nationally recognized water education, training programs, and publications.


TERCTahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) is dedicated to research, education and public outreach on lakes and their surrounding watersheds and airsheds. Lake ecosystems include the physical, biogeochemical and human environments, and the interactions among them. The Center is committed to providing objective scientific information for restoration and sustainable use of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

TERC offers education and outreach programs at the Thomas J. Long Foundation Education Center within the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Incline Village, and will have programs at the restored fish hatchery building in Tahoe City. The education programs are focused on 5th and 6th grades, but adaptable to other grade levels.


CHOLLA (Connecting Hands-on Lifelong Learning Adventures is an organization of land management agencies, education nonprofits, and teachers and administrators from Clark County School District. The group works to provide information to teachers on field trips and guest presenters, all aimed at getting K-12 students in touch with their natural environment and community. The Beyond the Classroom website (also available through Interact with the FirstClass client for CCSD teachers) has details about each of the group members, and the opportunities and curriculum they offer.


North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) is a network of professionals, students, and volunteers working in the field of environmental education throughout North America and in over 55 countries around the world. Since 1971, the Association has promoted environmental education and supported the work of environmental educators. There are many environmental interest groups, and many organizations dedicated to improving education. NAAEE uniquely combines and integrates both of these perspectives, and takes a cooperative, nonconfrontational, scientifically-balanced approach to promoting education about environmental issues.
