Joshua TreeThe Nevada Natural Resource Education Council (NNREC) is a statewide nonprofit organization providing leadership in environmental education. Established in 1986, NNREC has helped coordinate the activities of agencies, organizations, and individuals providing EE opportunities. We have been a strong voice for environmental education in all settings: environmental science as an independent subject and the environment as an integrating context in classrooms, field trips to natural areas and community facilities, guest presenters in classrooms, residential programs, and the development and distribution of high quality curriculum. NNREC partners with organizations and agencies to increase environmental education and restoration opportunities; offers scholarships to organizations and individuals; and acts as a clearinghouse for EE information.

NNREC is the lead sponsor of the Lamoille Institute for Educators (LIFE), a week-long professional development experience, and a cosponsor of the Great Basin Teacher Workshop (GBTW). We sponsor Project Learning Tree, PLT-Fire and River of Words workshops, and cosponsor NatureScope, Project WET, and Project WILD workshops. The Nevada Environmental Education Directory (1997) and the State of Environmental Education in Nevada (1994) have been widely distributed and helped bring together information and activists. NNREC offers members and the EE community an annual conference with workshops, a keynote and entertainment; email newsletters monthly and one print newsletter per year; and an invitation to join in leading environmental education in Nevada.

NNREC is a membership organization. Though we seek and obtain grants for specific programs, the very existence of the organization is the result of the interests, expertise, work and membership dues of our members. Please join us in this work!

When people ask (or you wonder), "What is NNREC? What does it do?", the new About NNREC document can help you answer those questions. This one page flier provides some background information on NNREC and addresses each of the goals that NNREC will be achieving in 2006.

NNREC is a leading member of the Affiliates Network of the North American Association for Environmental Education.
